Undoubtedly, you will have seen various campaigns where people ask you to sign a petition to prohibit bull-fighting; these petitions are very useful in putting pressure on the politicians.
But, unfortunately, not all Catalan politicians take into consideration that more than 80% of the Catalan population wishes to abolish bull-fighting.
This is the reason why we have set up an association called Platforma Prou (“Enough is Enough” in English) whose sole purpose is to force our representatives to debate the modification of the Law and to abolish bull-fighting once and for all. The Parliamentary tool we are using to achieve our goal is called a Popular Legislative Initiative (ILP).
An ILP is a legal tool that consists of a massive campaign to collect 50,000 signatures in only 120 days.
The signees must be residents of Catalunya and the petitions will be validated once they are handed in to the Parliament of Catalonia.
So if we are capable of collecting 50,000 signatures in 120 days, our MPs will be obliged to debate the proposed modification of the law. After the corresponding debates of the different parliamentary groups, the proposal will be voted on.
The moral and ethical principles that we uphold are very simple and have nothing to do with politics or electoralisme.
